Aaron versus Margo

Dr. Aaron Oakley forwarded his correspondence with Margot Kingston about the SIEV-X affair. Makes for entertaining reading....

Dear Margo,

Since your SEIV-X obsession continues, I thought it would be pertinent to bring up the occasion on which 72 people trying to escape Fidel Castro's Island prison were attacked:

http://www.newaus.com.au/news259castro_massacre.html

The aniversary of this event was July 13. Strangely, there was no mention of it on your Web Diary. One suspects that, its not the crime, but who commits it. Thus, If howard were a commie, Im sure the SEIV-X affair would have been forgotten long ago. And because Castro is from the "correct" side of the political spectum, the memory of his victims can be safely flushed down the Orwellian Memory Hole.

Howards real crime is being a conservative. SEIV-X is just a stick with which to bash him.

Aaron O.

To which Margo responded:

you've got to be joking, Aaron. SIEV-X concerns us. Are you really saying we should take the same interest in a matter which concertns and involves us as something thover which we have absolutelyu no control?

To which Aaron responded:

You wrote about Enron. That "didn't concern us", but it did not stop you writing about it.

One might argue that US foreign policy "doesn't concern us". Yet a great deal of Web Diary is dedicated to just this topic.

I might argue that the way Cuba treats its boat people is worth comparing to the way we do. Very timely and pertinant, wouldn't you say?

I suggests that "didn't concern us" is just your way shutting down the discussion.

Well, I won't let it be shut down.

Comparing the obsession over SIEV-X and its remarkable silence over the de Marzo massacre says an awful lot about our media, don't you think?

When it comes to Marxist tyrants, you and your fellow journalists are silent. It seems to me that to the left, it is who does the killing that counts. Thus, you have nothing to say about Castro. I note that in your response to me you did not include one word of condemnation of Castro. Once again, this is very revealing.

Indeed.

Noooooooooo!!!! - Led Zep to reunite?

Hot Buttered Death sure is good at finding scary links;

LEGENDARY rockers Led Zeppelin are set to re-group after 22 years for a money-spinning stadium tour of America.

The three surviving members — singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones — plan to hit the road next summer.

Yikes. If their recent form is anything to go by, this will blow goats on a massive scale. The Page/Plant MTV No Quarter (Unledded) thing was self-absorbed pompous crapola which managed to ruin just about every Zep song they reworked. And did anyone stay awake thru Walking into Clarksdale? It's one of the dullest, lifeless, soggy albums I've ever sat thru.

I'f you're after decent post-Zep work, try Coverdale/Page or Plant's Now and Zen, Fate of Nations or Principle of Moments.
